Lie of the Month

Mankind is in need of salvation.

This may be the most controlling of all lies, as it takes all power away from the individual and gives it to the church/priest. Essentially, it says that all people were born defective in the eyes of their Creator, and there is nothing they can do on their own to make up for their deficiencies, except to beg forgiveness and do whatever their religion dictates.

Even though it is preposterous on its surface, this lie is so ingrained in our society that its negative influence has continued unabated for many millennia.

The following text sheds some light on the origins of “original sin.” . . . . [read more]

Clarifying the Abortion Muddle

. . . Today’s abortion firestorm was ignited in 1979 when ”Right to Life” was adopted as a rallying cry by religious leaders to camouflage their battles with the IRS. They rightly felt that calls to protect the “unborn” would be more palatable to moderate Christians than pleas to shield their segregated academies from losing tax-exempt status — which was their true goal.  . . .  [read more]

Worth Repeating This Month
"There are those, we have found, who are prepared to believe in psi phenomena provided they happened a long time ago and preferably in another country. The suggestion that they happened yesterday evening right here is less welcome."
— Guy Lyon Playfair, JSPR v. 55, No. 813, p. 208
“The coming of Christianity did not increase the status of women in society— indeed, the opposite proved true and the antisexual nature of the new religion produced a far greater antifemale attitude than had existed previously." — Hugh M. Hefner

This Month's Recommended Reading
These books are recommended as sources of valuable information and insights. We believe them to be largely accurate and useful. Thy do not, however, necessarily represent the offical position or worldview of Rational Spiritism.
Book Cover America's War on Sex: The Continuing Attack on Law, Lust, and Liberty, by Marty Klein, Ph.D.
Why does our government want to censor what you read, hear, and see, try to limit your access to contraception, attempt to legislate good moral values, and try to brainwash your kids about abstinence? These are the kinds of questions Dr. Marty Klein asks―and answers. With hundreds of examples ripped from today's headlines, he names names, challenges political hypocrisy, and shows the financial connections between government and conservative religious groups that are systematically taking away your rights.

Book CoverJourney of Souls — Michael Newton
"Past lives" is a term that refers to one life on Earth following another life on Earth. Dr. Newton developed a new (time-consuming and tedious, but highly effective) technique that allows a psychotherapist to acesss a patients' memories of the time spent between physical lives. There is amazing consistency among the various cases he reports in this book.

Book Cover The Years of Rice and Salt, —Kim Stanley Robinson
An alternate history in which the Black Death has killed 99 percent of Europe’s population instead of one-third. Through the eyes of soldiers and kings, explorers and philosophers, slaves and scholars, Robinson navigates a world where Buddhism and Islam are the most influential and practiced religions, while Christianity is merely a historical footnote. The stories are brilliantly tied together by the device of having the same spirits being reborn into different eras as different, but somehow familar, personalities.
